Volunteers Are Required To Be 18 Years Old And To Commit At Least 6 Hours Each Week.
Volunteers Do Not Have To Live In Brentwood Or North Bay Shore (Must Live On Long Island).
You Do Not Have To Have A NYS DOH Certification Or Experience To Apply, Once You Are On Probation We Can Sponsor A Class For You.
Timeline And Expectations:
Please Note That We Conduct Interviews Approximately Once Per Quarter. Check In On Our Facebook Page For Updates On When They May Be
After Your Interview, If We Have A Position Available For You, You’ll Come In To Fill Out Our Official Application To The Department.
You Will Be Required To Take Our Set Of Training Classes. These Classes Are Not An EMT Class. They Are Particular To Our Department And Our Equipment. CPR Training Will Be Provided During This Time If You Do Not Have A Valid BLS Heart Saver CPR Card.
You Will Be Required To Ride Two Observation Tours With Us. Please Note That You Will Be A Civilian Observer. You Are There To Watch, Not Assist.
Once You Finish Your Observation Tours And Classes (Approximately 5-7 Weeks), You Will Begin Probation And Start Riding On A Regularly Scheduled 6 Hour Duty Tour, Which Is The Same Day And Time Each Week.
Probation Is A Minimum Of 6 Months And A Maximum Of One Year.
If You Are Not An EMT, We Can Sponsor An EMT Class Offered Through Suffolk County Or Nassau County. We Cannot Sponsor Classes Offered Through A College. You Must Begin Probation Before We Can Sponsor A Class.
Job Description Of An EMT:
Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) Respond To Emergency Calls To Provide Efficient And Immediate Care To The Critically Ill And Injured, And To Transport The Patient To A Medical Facility.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:
Opening And Maintaining An Airway
Ventilating Patients
Administering CPR, Including Use Of Automated External Defibrillators
Providing Prehospital Emergency Medical Care Of Simple And Multiple System Trauma Such As:
Controlling Hemorrhage
Treatment Of Shock
Bandaging Wounds
Immobilization Of Painful, Swollen, Or Deformed Extremities
Immobilization Of Painful, Swollen, Or Deformed Neck Or Spine
Providing Emergency Medical Care To:
Assist In Emergency Childbirth
Manage General Medical Complaints Of Altered Mental Status, Respiratory, Cardiac, Diabetic, Allergic Reaction, Seizures, Poisoning Behavioral Emergencies, Environmental Emergencies, And Psychological Crises.
Administration Of Oxygen, Oral Glucose, Naloxone, Albuterol, And More.
Job Description Of A Driver:
Accompanies And Assists Emergency Medical Technicians On Calls.
Drives Ambulance Safely To Transport Patients To The Hospital.
Places Patients On Stretchers And Loads Stretchers Into Ambulances Usually With Assistance From Other Attendants.
Administers First Aid Such As Bandaging, Splinting, And Administering Oxygen.
Checks The First Aid And Medical Supplies Inventory Levels With The Crew Before Each Shift And Ensures The Ambulance Is Well-Stocked.
Reports Accident Facts To Medical Personnel And Police Officers, When Necessary.
Knowledge Of Suffolk County Radio Transmission Codes (We Will Train)
Drivers Must Be Willing And Able To Assist EMT In Charge. They Are Expected To Be Familiar With All Medical Equipment.

Riding Member
A riding member is an essential part of the ambulance crew. They’re are the face of Brentwood Ambulance to our community in their time of need. A riding member can be a driver, New York State certified EMT-B, EMT-CC, or paramedic. No experience is necessary.

Committee Member
Committee members operate behind the scenes of Brentwood Ambulance. These members insure that we keep operating 24/7 365 days a year. Some tasks include ordering medical supplies and maintaining radio, and medical equipment. No experience is necessary however, prior experience will be considered.

Youth Squad
Explorer post 325 is a co-ed youth program for ages 14-17. This program is affiliated with the Boy Scouts and sponsored by the Brentwood Ambulance. The Explorers are taught lifesaving skills and are given a fast track to membership once they are 18.
